No School – Friday, October 10
Friday, October 10, is a no school day due to a Statewide In service Day.
Looking for something to keep your kiddos occupied on October 10? The Chehalem Aquatic Center is holding two public swim sessions on October 10 from 1-3 pm and
7-8:30 pm. They will be featuring their "Blue Tube". The Blue Tube is an inflatable that spans the width of the shallow end; the challenge is to sit or straddle the tube while it is spinning and rolling. See who can stay on the longest! All are welcome (rules require that children 8 years and younger be accompanied in the water by an adult) Enjoy the diving board, basketball, slides, and Tarzan rope swing. Admission for children, students and senior citizens is $2.50 and adults are $3.00. Children are welcome to use the hot tub during these special sessions.
The Aquatic Center also has swim lessons. Click for information about swim lessons, community events, sports and more: http://www.newberg.k12.or.us/district/e-friday-folder
Mtn. View’s Conference Schedule
Mtn. View Fall Conferences will be held on the following dates:
*Wednesday, October 29 from 4-8 pm arena style in the MV Gym
*Thursday, October 30 from noon-3:30 pm in Teacher Classrooms
*Thursday, October 30 from 4-8 pm arena style in the MV Gym
What are arena style conferences? All teachers will be set up in the Gym with a few exceptions (a list will be available of these teachers at Conferences). We will have signs with teacher’s names next to the teacher. Chairs will be set up for waiting parents in front of each teacher.
Do I have to sign up for conferences? No, all conferences are on a first come, first served basis and we ask that you limit your time to 10-15 minutes per teacher as other parents are waiting. If you require a longer session, please contact the teacher via email to request a meeting with them.
Do I need to bring my student? That is up to you. What would be good for you to bring is a list of their teachers. Not sure of the teacher’s names? If you haven’t signed up for ParentVue, this is a great time to sign up and access your student’s schedule. Contact Renee Martinez at martinezr@newberg.k12.or.us for a ParentVue activation code.
There is no school on Thursday, October 30 and Friday, October 31.
Immunization Clinic
Is your child up-to-date on their immunizations? Make sure they are before the State Exclusion Day in February 2015. New this year: all 6th graders must have 2 HepA immunizations while all 7th graders must have 1 HepA. An Immunization Clinic will be held at Edwards Elementary in the Cafeteria from 3-6 pm on Wednesday, November 5, if you’d like to attend. This clinic is offered by Yamhill County Public Health. If you do attend this Clinic, please bring:
*the most up-to-date shot record so the nurses may assess shots needed
*A parent/guardian must accompany students under the age of 15.
*If the student is covered by insurance, a card must be presented for billing purposes.
*Each immunization will cost $21.96. Payment arrangements may be made. No student will be turned away for inability to pay.
Whether you attend the Clinic at Edwards Elementary or your own doctor for immunizations, please send in the shot record (dated and signed) to Renee Martinez, in our Counseling Office. You can send it with your student, fax it to 503-537-3337 or email to martinezr@newberg.k12.or.us
Box Top Contest
Are you ready to get rid of those Box Tops you’ve been saving? The first MV Box Top Contest of the school year will kick off on Monday, October 13 ending October 24. Students can drop baggies with their names on it and filled with Box Tops in the container across from the Office. The top three winning students will receive Student Store cash and their parent receives a prize too!
Picture Retakes
Picture retakes are scheduled for Friday, October 17, in the morning. Is this you?
1. Your student will be having retakes - have them bring the old pictures to school and hand the packet to the photographers.
2. Your student was absent on September 3, the original picture day, or is new to MVMS after September 3 – they will have their picture taken on
October 17. If you would like to purchase pictures, packets are available in the Office.
And More…
Tuesday morning students filed out of the building for a fire drill.
8th Graders going on the Washington DC trip who were doing the flower bulb fundraiser were required to return their packets to Mrs. Martinez, in the counseling office, on Tuesday.
Thursday was the end of the time period for students to earn Sticker #2. New stickers will be distributed on Tuesday. Monday’s announcements will include instructions informing students when and where to hand in their ID card to receive Sticker #2 if they’ve earned one. Don’t remember what it takes to earn a sticker or what the privileges are? Click on this link: http://www.newberg.k12.or.us/mountainview/incentive-program
Band members will be participating in a Play-a-thon Fundraiser after school and into the evening on Thursday. It sounds like a lot of fun with a spaghetti dinner (can’t forget the ice cream too!), performances by the NHS Jazz Ensemble and NHS Wind Ensemble, rehearsal sessions, sessions with NHS students and games all culminating in a performance by our band students!
The bulletin board across from the Library has some fun trivia about Mtn. View’s staff. Students who get all of the right answers will receive money to spend at the student store.
Music Events
Band, Choir and String events are posted on Mtn. View’s website and the Newberg School District Calendar…

Picking up your student?
Need to pick up your student during the school day? Rather have them waiting for you instead of you waiting for them? Give us a call at 503-554-4500! You can even call late at night and leave us a voice mail! Let us know the time you will be picking up your student and whether they will be returning to school that day. We will send a note to your student and if all goes well, they’ll be waiting for you in the Office. Come to the Office, sign your student out and away you go.
