MV ESchool News
April 28, 2017
Principal’s Corner Michele Paton
Recently, spinners have become very popular at MVMS and at schools across the country. While they are referred to as "fidget" spinners, fidgets are typically used to help students who have difficulty focusing by giving them something to do with their hands or bodies in order to keep them from being distracted, but these toys are having quite the opposite effect for most of our students. We are finding that these toys are a distraction to most students in the classroom, and actually pull the focus of our students who can sometimes benefit from a fidget.
While we are not banning spinners, please consider keeping them at home. If your student benefits from the use of some kind of fidget, and you find that spinners work, they are certainly welcome to utilize that tool. If, though, your student is not one who benefits and is just bringing the spinners to have something with which to play during the day, they are better to be left at home so as not to distract instruction in the classroom. Thanks in advance for your consideration!

Doernbecher Dance
The Dance is roaring (not kidding) away as we get ready to send you our weekly information. There was a minor glitch with the playlist - but it certainly sounds like it's been fixed. We are excited to see how much is actually earned to donate to Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
Announcements
We spent the week announcing that 8th grade students interested in being NHS Cheerleaders next year could pick up a packet, but they had to be turned in by today. Good luck to all the students who turned one in!
Calling all artists! The St Paul Rodeo Association is looking for western-inspired art for its art show held over the 4th of July at the rodeo. Submissions must be completed by June 10th-all art mediums are accepted. Get more information in the library.
Students were told they could stop by the library and vote for their new favorite student created bookmark.

The Parent Group moved the Pre-Registration date to May 1st! That’s this coming Monday, so be sure to sign up this weekend. See all of the details below under the Parent Group heading.
8th Grade Celebration/T-Shirts
The 8th Grade Celebration is Tuesday, June 20, at 8:15am. All parents are invited to attend. 8th Graders attend class as if it is a normal school day and will change into their royal blue keepsake 8th Grade Celebration T-shirts just prior to the event. If you haven’t already done so, please have your 8th Grader bring $10 and their T-shirt size to the Office by Monday, May 5. May 8 is the absolute deadline in order for us to get the order placed.
Yearbooks
Yearbooks ARE still available. They are $20. We still have a few, but when they’re gone, they’re gone. How do you purchase one? You can either have your student come into the office to pay for the yearbook, or you may purchase online, for a small fee. https://webstores.activenetwork.com/school-software/mountain_view_middle... Or, you’re welcome to come in, too! We accept Cash, Check or Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover.
Mall Trip
We had over 150 students earn the privilege of going to the mall on Thursday, April 27th. They were gone from 3rd through 6th period. When they returned they seemed to have had a terrific time. Many bags in tow, lots of laughter, and many treasures to share.
Crystal Apple Awards
It’s that time of year that you can nominate a staff member for the Crystal Apple Award. The Newberg School District's Crystal Apple Award recognizes outstanding service. This annual award is presented in June to a deserving teacher, support staff member and administrator. Students, parents, community members and school district employees are encouraged to nominate Newberg School District employees for the annual Crystal Apple Award.
