In Attendance:
Nikula Stone, Rebecca Swindle, Tiffany Olea, Heather Harrison, Michelle Paton, Misty Cook, Travis Cook, Sue Wong

Principal Report:
Ms. Paton is eager to help us in our goal of increasing parent group attendance and plans to attend our meetings, opening with regular updates from the administration about our students and school! We will dedicate different meetings to a variety of topics, including:

  *Student Safety
  *Internet Safety
  *AVID
*Behind-the-scenes updates on curricular changes, etc.

Please contact us with wishes for future meeting topics.

Spanish Teacher update: many parents have been excited about the opportunity to provide Spanish language classes at the middle school level, and their desire may come true! Many students responded to a forecasting form for Spanish class, and the form was recently distributed to incoming 5th graders. Ms. Paton hopes that we will be able to hire a part-time Spanish teacher for the Fall!

President Report:
*Calendar for next year: we would love to start the year with a calendar to distribute with dates of dances and activities for the year. We would love to have a place for parents to sign up to help out with activities at the back-to-school events.
*8th grade graduation: We will help set up for the event the afternoon before, and provide decorations and treats for the 8th grade parents and students after the ceremony.
*We will explore the option of contracting with www.growhealthy.com
*Treasurer: we end the year with $12,801 and are in great shape to begin next year!

Upcoming Events and Ideas:
*Color Run – We would like to run this in September, and need a committee to head up this great event.
*Donkey Basketball – yes, you read that correctly! Real donkeys!
*Painting Night – parents and kids join in a directed painting class!
*Dances: We will plan on 4 dances next year, 1 per quarter.
*Fall Fundraiser – this is already in progress, and a representative will present the popcorn/cookie sales forms at an assembly early in the year.
   *Some great parent ideas/requests:
*to send a separate email with parent group notes so parents can keep track of our announcements - (We will ask Anita if she will accommodate this request.)
*Host “Screenagers Movie: Growing Up in the Digital Age,” a documentary for parents and students - (Ms. Paton will look into this opportunity.)
*Starting a debate group after school or during lunchtime - (Ms. Paton was on board with starting up this club, and would encourage more after school club-type opportunities like this for our student body – let us know if you have any ideas!)

Please contact us if you have any ideas! We appreciate your input.
