Fundraising
We proposed a simple request form for funds in lieu of a Fall Fundraiser. Cindy Palmer presented a flyer she created to ask for donations instead of selling magazines/etc. She proposes printing it at George Fox, and stapling an envelope to it. The parent group exists to provide funds for school incentives and staff support. A concern was raised about the wording on the document; because some students are not earning incentives, their families may not consider donating to the parent group funds. We discussed rewording the flyer so that it is clear about where our funds go and the many programs we support at the school.
Proposed Fundraisers this year:
Jump, Shoot, Run - March 18th
Color Run – Spring
No Sales Fundraiser – Clothes for a Cause
We collect donated goods, they are weighed and set a check for the goods
Wilson Candy Buy-Back – October
Posters will go up soon
We need to collect at least 10 pounds to earn $250
Movie Ticket Sales for Peanuts Movies
Anyone purchasing tickets within a certain time frame can use a code, and we receive a portion of the proceeds
SCRIP – Mrs. Paton had not heard of this program, but is willing to learn about it and possibly institute this in the future.
Email Contact List
Tiffany Olea digitized the email list, and sent out a group email asking for volunteers to help with the upcoming Boo Ball, and many volunteers responded. With such a successful use of the email list, we want to be sure that all parents who wish to receive updates or volunteer requests are on the list. If you want your name added, please email Rebecca at (rebecca.swindle@gmail.com)
Spirit Wear/T-shirt Designing Contest
All Spirit Wear t-shirts and sweatshirts have been delivered. This is not a fundraiser, though it brought in $256. We will decide the plan for the t-shirt design for next year’s Spirit Wear. Proposals include inviting the teachers to contribute designs, or including both students and teachers and opening the vote up to the student body.
Snack Shack
The Snack Shack is up and running, and fully staffed with weekly volunteers. Unfortunately, the cabinet door is broken, and the glass will have to be replaced or an entirely new cabinet purchased.
The Activities Committee – upcoming events
Boo Ball Dance
The dance committee has been working hard to prepare for the first activity of the school year! Join us this Friday, Oct. 30th, for the well-loved Boo Ball!! Dan Busch will DJ. For $7 VIP tickets (for sale this week) students will get a pumpkin to take home, decorate, and return for a contest, early entry into the dance, a photo, and a Candy Pull which they can use as a “shout out” at the dance. The dance committee and Wildcat Pride have worked together and plan on incorporating the color pink to honor Breast Cancer Awareness. Koch Farms and Baggenstos Farms have donated pumpkins. The dance committee has requests to Fred Meyer for lighting, and Dutch Bros for gift cards to raffle. Thank you all for your help in planning this great event, and to our local businesses in supporting this great night for our kids!
December Activity
The committee is looking at December 4th for a movie/open gym/game night. We discussed the issue of licensing fees for a movie, and Mrs. Paton told us that the district is looking at purchasing group rights.
Red Carpet Event
Feb 12th (possible) will be a red carpet event. They are planning a Hollywood-type dance with stars and photos.
Parent Link – The administration shares our frustration with the lack of updates on the grades and attendance features of Parent Link, and they urge you to use your student’s Student View account while we wait for it to be repaired.
Meeting time change
Mrs. Paton requests the change of some or all of the parent group meetings to evenings to better accommodate all interested parents and guardians. We decided to hold our November meeting during the evening, and hope that many more of you are able to attend! The next parent group meeting will be help on Tuesday, November 17th, at 7PM at the school. In addition, we can ask the district to provide translation services for those that need it. Nikula Stone, fluent in Spanish, offered her services to translate at our meetings.
Counseling Department Needs
The counseling department provides supplies for many of our students throughout the year. If you are able to donate any of these items, please drop them by the counseling office. In future years, many of us would love this list added to our school supply lists at the start of the year so that we can purchase supplies to donate while we shop for our own children. IMMEDIATE needs:
2-3” binders colored pencils
loose leaf paper calculators
feminine hygiene products pencils
Deodorant pens
spiral notebooks
THE NEXT MVMS PARENT GROUP MEETING WILL BE HELD ON Tuesday, November 17th, 7PM at the school.
Respectfully submitted, Rebecca Swindle, Secretary
