REPORTS

Mrs. Paton – Principal
Mrs. Paton requests funds to replace a part in the leaderboard in front of the school. We hope to get this repaired soon!

Fall Fundraiser:
The Parent Group exists to fund the school’s needs, particularly the enticing Incentive Program. The details of the Incentive Program can be found in the student handbook on the website. In order to fund this (and other) programs, we discussed asking for donations in lieu of a large Fall fundraiser, like the magazine drives we used to hold. Would families prefer to be notified of the specific needs of the incentive program, which works out to about $25-30 per student, and decide if they simply want to write a check rather than solicit donations? Perhaps a $50 donation would earn a school t-shirt. We will bring a sample flyer to the next meeting for a vote.

Open Positions for the 2015/2016 School Year:
Fundraising Coordinator - OPEN
Events Committee – We have several willing participants in forming a committee to oversee the dances and activities this year, including Shelly Didway, Heather Harrison, Nikula Stone, and Jenny Matteson. Please contact us if you would like to join this committed group!

Volunteer Coordinator – Tiffany Olea will add the names and emails of interested parents into a database for the future volunteer coordinator.

Hospitality Coordinator – Tiffany Olea will head this up and coordinate volunteer meal donations from our school family. We will prepare luncheons to thank the staff during Teacher Appreciation Week, Parent/Teacher Conferences, and at the Semester Break.

Snack Shack
Sabrina Salewski oversees the afterschool Snack Shack operations, and requests help for running it after school. The volunteers open the Shack at 2:35, and are usually done by 3:00. Volunteers: Nikula, Amy, and Shelly (as a substitute.)

New Literature with the School ID Badges:
Cindy Palmer noted the flyer accompanying the school volunteer ID badges shared some information new to her, including the volunteer’s responsibility to retain in confidence any information about student’s records, as well as the volunteer’s role as a mandatory child abuse reporter. Carefully read the information accompanying your volunteer badge so we can better support our schools.

Scholastic Book Sale
The Fall Scholastic Book Faire will take place on October 28, 29, and 30. Heather Harrison sets up the books and welcomes help in running the Faire from parents and students, including Wildcat Pride. We also look forward to  Spring Scholastic Book Faire. Contact Heather if you can help! g_harrison@frontier.com

The Color Run Recap
The Color Run did very well as a fundraiser (at least $5,000 brought in, though more may be coming because they inadvertently charged us for t-shirts) and was a successful community event. We plan to hold the event again this Spring, and possibly coordinate with Mabel Rush. In addition, Tiffany Olea believes that we can run the event ourselves without sacrificing funds to any organization. Great job!!

Jump, Shoot, and Run:
A fundraiser, helping fund the PE program, is finalizing the date. We need to supply volunteers to collect pledge forms throughout the day. The students collect donations and challenge themselves to jump, shoot, or run! Last year, our biggest performers participated in a competition with the teachers – winners got lunch!

Upcoming BOO Ball
This well-loved event will take place on Friday, Oct. 30th. Students are encouraged to dress up, following school dress code standards, and many parent volunteers are needed to ensure that the event runs smoothly and safely for our students. We would like a firm number of volunteers required per student as we go forward planning this event. Our Events Committee will soon meet to prepare for the Ball. Please contact us if you are interested in helping with this event!

Spirit Wear
We already have a large order (87 units) of school t-shirts and sweatshirts for the year. They will soon be ordered, though more orders are welcome throughout the year. T-shirts: $15, Sweatshirts: $25. In January, we will hold a competition for the design of the next t-shirt.

Mrs. Paton Discusses AVID
AVID is a district-wide program adopted for secondary schools in Newberg, and at Mountain View, we not only have a specific class for designated AVID students, but the strategies extend to all students. The program seeks to teach strategies including: writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. Cornell notes, included in this program, are taught as one of the strategies to increase learning. Many students spent the first week of school learning Cornell Notes, and will continue to use them, along with other strategies, to enhance learning.

THE NEXT MVMS PARENT GROUP MEETING WILL BE HELD ON Friday, October 16th 1PM in Room 117 in the library.

Respectfully submitted, Rebecca Swindle, Secretary
