We are looking for families interested in hosting Chinese 8th- grade students in your homes for a total of 8 nights in January 2016. The group of 17 Chinese students will be attending Mountain View Middle School as part of an educational and cultural exchange. The aim is to place them in homes within our Newberg community, ideally in pairs of two per home, to afford them a true cultural experience with an American family.
Homestays would be from January 20 to January 28 (until the end of the school day). Hosting would involve providing breakfast and dinner each day, and including the students in your family activities. The Chinese students will travel to and from school each day in whatever manner their host student does. A stipend of $200 per student ($400 total) will be provided to cover expenses.
These students are visiting from the Longgang Foreign Language School in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China, traveling to the Portland area for a two-week American Language and Cultural Immersion program. They will be participating in classes in English and other subjects along with Mountain View Middle School students, as well as attending school activities. The group will travel to experience other Northwest sites from January 29 to February 2 before departing for China on February 3.
