NHS AP Exam Information 2023-2024

What is Advanced Placement (AP)?
Students who choose to enroll in Advanced Placement courses have the opportunity each May to take the Advanced Placement exam offered by The College Board for the corresponding course. Taking an AP exam is a natural conclusion to the extensive work you have completed while taking an AP course. You should be proud of the fact that you have chosen to enroll in this college level course during high school.
The main reason to take an AP class with an exam is to demonstrate mastery of rigorous college-level material. By scoring a passing grade on an AP exam (3 or above), you can typically earn college credit and/or placement at the majority of colleges and universities in the US.
To find a listing of individual colleges and universities and their policy in accepting AP exam grades (college credit awarded for exam scores), please visit College Board's website.

How do I enroll in an AP Class?
Students enroll in AP classes during forecasting with their Guidance Counselor.  They can see their Guidance Counselor with questions or to enroll. Students must complete an AP Contract for each course that they take. Once you are enrolled in an AP class, you must register for the AP exam separately in a 2 step process (Info Below).

How do I register for the AP Exam for 2023-2024?
Step 1: Join your AP class through CollegeBoard.  This step is completed in your AP classroom. You will log in to myap.collegeboard.org to register for the AP Class using a join code that your teacher will provide.  If you have not 'joined' your AP class, contact your AP teacher for instructions and the code. Per College Board's Program Guide:
Each AP Exam score is a weighted combination of the student's score on the multiple-choice & on the free response section.  The final score is graded on a 5 point scale. Colleges and universities are responsible for setting their own credit and placement policies.  AP scores signify how qualified students are to receive college credit or placement.
Ranges are as follows:
5 = Extremely Well Qualified
4 = Well Qualified
3 = Qualified
2 = Possibly Qualified
1 = No recommendation
