Resource Room

NHS Resource Room

NHS Resource Room is a safe, welcoming space created and maintained by parent and community volunteers. It is a room for any NHS or Catalyst students who are having a difficult time getting basic needs items including school supplies, personal hygiene products, clothing, shoes, basic household items or food.

We've moved! Now in the K Building with the new School Based Health Center

Questions & suggestions can be directed to the project leader:

Open Hours: Mon, Wed, Fri 11:30-1:30pm

NHS staff are able to access the room during school hours if students have an immediate need outside of our regular open hours.

Who is the NHS Resource Room for? It is a room for any of our NHS students that are currently having a hard time getting basic need items.

What basic need items does the NHS Resource Room have?

1. Clothing: coats, pants, shirts, shoes, socks, underwear & bras.

2. Hygiene items: deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine products & some household items like laundry detergent, toilet paper, paper towels, sponges and dish soap.

3. School supplies

4. Non-perishable food

5. Snack items (bars, nuts etc) that are donated are given to our counseling office, main office and youth advocates at NHS, to ensure they have easy snack items available for students who are experiencing food insecurity or are just having an off day.
Why does NHS have a Resource Room? NHS has about 1,500 students, and over 40% of our NHS kids and their families are living below the poverty line. NHS partnered with the parent community to create this NHS student resource, to help provide a support for our students.

Do students need permission to go to the NHS Resource Room? No, they can just show up during the scheduled open hours and take the items that you are needing.

Who will be in the room when students visit during open hours? A community or parent volunteer. They are there to help assist students if you can’t find a size you are looking for or need to know where certain items are located.

Who is keeping the Resource Room stocked? NHS is receiving continual donations from parents, staff, students and people in the community who are wanting to make sure every NHS student has access to basic needs items.

If students need more help, who can help them? Students can go the counseling office to schedule an appointment to meet with their counselor, or they can ask to meet with NHS family advocate, Shyla Jasper. Shyla can connect you to more resources and help provide you with further support.

Who are the parent project leaders for the NHS Resource Room? Jan Hart leads the NHS Resource Room. See contact information below, if you have questions about the project or want to offer support in any way.

We are excited to have a STUDENT RESOURCE at NHS that allows students the opportunity to be resourceful and to advocate for themselves. This is a room to help empower students to take care of themselves and each other. If you have any ideas on how to make this room better, or you have feedback you want to give us on this room, please feel free to contact the project leaders! School and parent leaders are working to ensure we have Resource Rooms at all 10 of our Newberg public schools. We would love to know if you have ideas for us to improve on our approach or what we are providing.

We gladly accept new or gently used adult size clothing, healthy snacks, non perishable food and hygiene supplies. Donations can be dropped off at the School Based Health Center Monday-Friday 8-4:30.  We have an  Amazon wish list and purchases will be delivered directly to NHS.
