Attendance: Policy & Procedures

Attendance:  New School Policy to support the structural changes, safety and attendance improvement. We have one Attendance Office to support our attendance policy and procedures.

Procedural Changes:  Please help us to improve our attendance rates at NHS.

Students Leaving School:

Students must check out from school at the attendance office.  Students who drive will receive a green exit slip permitting them to leave campus.

Parents needing to pick up or excuse a student from school need to call the attendance office prior to the student leaving or provide a written notice.   Students will receive a green exit slip with the time of pick up and will need to report to the main office until parents arrive.   Students with written notification must report to the attendance office to receive their exit slip at the beginning of the day.

Parents will need to meet/pick up their student at the NHS main office (Douglas Ave. entrance). Parents need to call within 48 hours of student missing school with an unexcused absence to excuse the absence.  Otherwise, the absence will remain as unexcused.

Pre-Arranged absences.  Students missing multiple days will need to complete a pre-arranged absence form that they can pick up from the attendance office.  This provides students an opportunity to receive homework prior to the absence.

Attendance Phone Calls: NHS has implemented a two call system for attendance this year.  If a student has an unexcused absence, parents will receive a phone call at 10:00am. A second phone call is made at 5:00pm.  These phone calls are a reminder to parents to call in to excuse their student’s absence.  These phone calls are also to bring attention to parents that their child is not in school.  As we continue to put systems in place, we do so with the greatest intent to keep our students safe and help them be successful.
