Chamber names Perron "Junior Citizen"

Tamara Perron is this year’s Chehalem Valley Chamber of Commerce Junior Citizen of the Year. Newberg mayor Bob Andrews presented the Green School senior with the award at the annual Chamber banquet on April 24, 2012.

Each year the Chehalem Valley Chamber of Commerce recognizes citizens who have made outstanding contributions to their community. The Junior Citizen Award is given to a student in 8-12th grade who demonstrates outstanding citizenship by contributing to the betterment of the community through service, leadership, good grades and encouraging the participation of others.

Tamara was chosen due to her various community service activities including her 7 years and nearly 1500 hours of volunteer service at the Oregon Zoo. Tamara has been recognized for her dedication to the Oregon Zoo by earning their 1000 hour award and two gold US Presidential Volunteer Service Awards. At Newberg High School she is involved in costuming for the Shakespeare plays, leadership activities both with Green School Leadership and is one of the Co-Presidents of Newberg High’s Associated Student Body. In addition, Tamara has also been a Girl Scout for 10 years, she dances hula and performs at retirement homes, hospitals and benefit shows.
