Dual credit classes save thousands in tuition

In the 2009-10 school year, 262 Newberg High School students earned 2,205 college credits through dual enrollment classes. Students enrolled in calculus, welding, Shakespeare, Advanced Senior English, horticulture, engineering and robotics classes earned PCC college credit as well as Newberg High School credit towards graduation, Bottom line? An overall tuition savings of $167,580.

Newberg High School has one of the most robust dual credit programs in the state. Newberg is third in the state in credits earned and the fourth in the number of unduplicated students enrolled in dual credit options. English teacher Kristyn Westphal and math teacher Bruce Sinkbeil rank among the top ten high school teachers in awarding credits for math and English/Writing.
