FFA compete in Career Development events

Newberg Oregon School District

FFA Career Development Event Days were held at at Oregon State University, May 2-3. While Newberg had a number of teams competing in various disciplines over the course of the two day event, reportable results are as follows:

AG MECHANICS 5th team overall (best team placement in over 20 years) team consists of: Logan Vandehey, Nick Lambert, Andrew Heesacker (13th individual), Ben Fleming (16th individual)

POULTRY EVALUATION 6th team overall - team consists of: Brian Fortner (11th individual), Josh Brown, Tyler Gooding, Beau Svendsen

CROPS/AGRONOMY 2nd team overall - team consists of: Kory Blake, Devin Drill, Andrew Comfort, Josh Brown, Emily Duyck (6th overall), Mackenzie Gunn (7th overall)

ENVIRONTHON, Oregon Gardens May 4

The Canon Envirothon is a multi-disciplinary event where teams compete in Aquatics, Soils/Land Use, Wildlife, and Forestry and prepare a 10-minute video regarding a current environmental issue (this year is Estuaries). This event also doubles as the Oregon FFA State Envrionment and Natural Resources competition. This year there were 38 total teams, 15 of which were entered in the FFA division. The event was held on May 6 at the Oregon Gardens.

  • 2nd place team overall - team consists of: Nick Grill, Thomas Lattig, Casey Kubisiak, Jacob Bissonette
  • 1st place FFA team - 4th place team overall - 1st place overall Soils/Land Use category: Kory Blake, Brian Fortner, Jacob Volkman, Brennan VandenHoek, alternates Emily Duyck and Mackenzie Gunn. This team qualifies to represent Oregon at the National FFA Convention in October.
