Freshman succumbs to injuries

Newberg Oregon School District

The Newberg School District is again terribly saddened by the loss of one of our own. Cesar Campuzano, a freshman at Newberg High School died Thursday, June 6th at Legacy Emanuel Hospital at 7:35 a.m. of injuries and complications from a near-drowning incident at Rogers Landing on Monday evening, June 3rd.

Classmates describe the 15 year-old as a fun-loving person who could make the day better. Chehalem Valley Middle School Principal Jon Franco remembers the infectious smile of a fun, caring and thoughtful individual.

“He was unforgettable,” said Franco. “Despite some of his struggles academically, his work ethic never wavered.  He cared deeply about his family and his friends, and would often reflect on what he envisioned for his future. Through these conversations it was apparent to me that Cesar was going to be successful because of his ability to reflect and learn from each situation.  We are going to miss Cesar.”

Cesar also attended Edwards and Mabel Rush elementary schools in Newberg. He is survived by his mother, father and three younger siblings.

An account has been established at First Federal Bank in Cesar’s name to accept donations for the family.

School counselors continue at provide support for students at Newberg High School. Resources for parents, children and families  seeking support and assistance in times of loss are on the school district website.
