June 2 is NHS Varsity Cheerleading Day

The Newberg City Council approved a proclamation declaring June 2, 2014, as Newberg High School Varsity Cheerleading Day at it's regular meeting on June 2, 2014.

The Council's desire to recognize citizen's achievements prompted Mayor Bob Andrews to forward a proclamation recognizing and celebrating the hard work, dedication, and persistence of the Newberg High School varsity cheerleading squad. The team finished their 2013-14 school year by bringing home the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) Oregon State Cheerleading Championship title as well as placing first in the small varsity show cheer division of the United Spirit Association (USA) Spirit Nationals Cheerleading Championships.

The NHS varsity cheerleading team has also been granted the honorary position of grand marshal for the 2014 Newberg Old Fashioned Festival to be held on July 24-27, 2014.
