N. H. S. Exam Day October 15, 2014

Newberg Oregon School District

Multiple exams and college visit opportunities will be available to Newberg High School students on October 15th. We are on a special schedule that day, with a late start and early release. All freshmen and sophomores will be taking exams (see below for details). Juniors have the opportunity to take the PSAT, ASVAB, or attend a college visit field trip. Seniors have the opportunity to take the SAT, ASVAB, or attend a college visit field trip.

• Freshmen will be given the ReadiStep exam, for free, in which the test results indicate areas of strength and areas that need developing. Students will also gain access to the College Board's website and other college information.
• Sophomores will be given the PSAT, which is paid for and required by the state legislature and is now in its fifth year. This is great practice for college entrance exams.
• All juniors wishing to take the PSAT, can qualify to be eligible for the National Merit Scholarship program. The cost is $20.00 paid to the bookkeeper.
• NHS Seniors only will be offered the SAT for a fee of $50.00 paid to the bookkeeper. Testing times are 8:40 -1:30. Buses will run at 12:30 and 2:30. Students will sign up online in their advisory with a special code given to them. There will be lab sessions during advisory where seniors will receive help registering for the exam and gaining access to the free online practice materials provided by College Board.  The deadline to pay and register for the school day SAT is October 1st.
• Juniors and seniors can choose to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) required by all branches of the service for entrance. Students sign up on the registration form and there is no cost for this exam.  Students may also pick up a study guide in the College and Career Center and check out additional ASVAB study resources from the library.
• Juniors and Seniors who do not wish to test are encouraged to sign up on the registration form for one of several college campus tours. Buses will leave from campus around 8:40 and return times vary.
• If students have already registered for a Saturday SAT and wish to change to the October 15th school day test, they will need to call College Board.

There will be a registration form that all juniors and seniors will need to have signed by a parent/guardian that indicates the student’s choice for that day. There will also be a field trip permission form that students will need to have signed by a parent/guardian, if they plan to participate in one of the college visit field trips.  Additionally, students also have the option to arrange a college visit on their own or work at home on schoolwork. See below for the registration form and field trip permission form attachments.
