Newberg FFA named Superior Chapter

Newberg Oregon School District

The Newberg FFA Chapter was recognized as a Superior Chapter (Gold Award) at the FFA state convention held in Hermiston during Spring Break week. The award recognizes FFA chapters that successfully complete an annual program of activities designed to encourage its members to grow as individuals, to work as part of a team, and to serve others. Activities include student, chapter and community development in areas such as scholarship, career success, chapter recruitment, citizenship and agriculture promotion.

Newberg completed and documented at least 15 activities to receive the Oregon Superior Chapter Award. As one of Oregon’s top gold chapter award winners, Newberg eligible to compete for the National FFA Star Chapter Awards.

Students turned in outstanding performances in Agriscience, Farm Business Management and public speaking contests. Individual results include:

  • Josh Brown, Devin Drill, Aaron Morland and Beau Svendsen received their State FFA Degree
  • 1st Place Agriscience experiment - Tia Piscitelli - Animal Systems Division II (eligible for National consideration for presentation at the National Convention)
  • 1st Place Agriscience experiment - Margaret Halstead - Plant Systems Division I (eligible for National consideration for presentation at the National Convention)
  • 1st Place Agriscience experiment - Emily Duyck - Food Science Division II (eligible for National consideration for presentation at the National Convention)
  • 1st Place Agricience experiment - Brayden Camarena - Power Structural & Technical Systems Division II (eligible for National consideration for presentation at the National Convention)
  • 1st Place Farm Business Management Team - Mackenzie Gunn (1st individual), Andrew Comfort (2nd individual), Brian Fortner (3rd individual), Beau Svendsen (6th individual). The team is eligible to compete at the National Convention
  • 1st Place Essay contest - Beau Svendsen (state only contest)
  • State Winner Swine Production Entrepreneur - Kory Blake (2011 graduate and eligible for National consideration)
  • 2nd Place Beginning Parlimentary Procedures Team - Dan Womack, Cheyenne Mingay, Kyle Lutze, Madeline Kuhn, Stephanie Graf, Margaret Halstead
  • 3rd Place Extemporaneous Public Speaking - Aaron Morland
  • 4th Place Advanced Parlimentary Procedures Team - Josh Brown, Trevor Piller, Tia Piscitelli, Liz Mingay, Brennan VandenHoek, Aaron Morland
  • 5th Place Beginning Public Speaking - Madeline Kuhn

Josh Brown, Devin Drill and Ben Fleming teamed up to compete in the Ag Marketing Career Development Event. Team members competing in the Knowledge Contest were Margaret Halstead, Dan Womack, Stephanie Graf, Cheyenne Mingay and Kyle Lutze.
