Newberg Oregon School District

Sophomores Aaron Morland, and Brennan Vandenhoek were named national champions in the National FFA AgriScience Fair for their experiment on wind energy.

The Silver School duo will be recognized today at the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Proceedings will be broadcast live on RFD-TV (check cable/satellite provider for listing).

Aaron and Brennan competed in the Engineering category of the National FFA AgriScience Fair, an annual competition for FFA members who are interested in the science and technology of agriculture. Students competing in the Engineering category study emerging technologies in mechanical, chemical, electrical, environmental engineering. Their projects apply scientific principles to manufacturing and production.

To be eligible for national competition, Aaron and Brennan had to conduct a scientific research project pertaining to the agriculture and food science industries and, present their findings to a panel of judges with a display and a report. All competitors in the National FFA AgriScience Fair were previously selected as one of the top participants at their local and state agriscience fairs.

This is the second year in a row that Newberg students have produced a national champion in the National FFA AgriScience Fair. The first place participants in each division receives a $350 cash award and a plaque.
