U.S. Congresswoman Bonamici Visit

This past Friday Newberg High was privileged to host U.S. Congresswoman Bonamici and her staff as they toured Newberg High’s STEM, CTE and Vocational Arts facilities. Fresh off of her reelection Congresswoman Bonamici took time to look into what is happening in terms of providing new, relevant and exciting career and college oriented educational opportunities here at NHS! After observing Ms. Poletski’s engineering class the Congresswoman visited Mr. Coss’ robotics lab and computer aided drafting class, toured the NHS welding facility, stopped by Mrs. Roholt and Mrs. Eilert’s Culinary Arts Lab and finished her visit with a stop at Great Expectations! On behalf of Newberg  Nation we want to thank Congresswoman Bonamici for her ongoing support and taking the time to visit Newberg High’s facilities and programs!

Accreditation???

Newberg High School is going through an accreditation year this year as NHS continues to ensure that the school maintains an accredited status in the eyes of the state of Oregon and post-secondary education providers. One of our duties that we must conduct during an accreditation year is to survey students, parents and staff! Please know that we are currently preparing the surveys for all of our stakeholders to take and that your feedback on those surveys is very important in terms of us measuring where we are currently at and how we are currently doing. So stay posted, Tigers, there is more to follow in the weeks ahead regarding when and how to give us your input!

The Breakfast Club

On behalf of the administration here at Newberg High we would like to begin an event in which we meet with parents and community members in a casual setting to discuss all things Newberg Nation! To this end we would like to kick off our first “Breakfast Club” meeting on Friday, November 21st, at 9am, in the meeting room at the Coffee Cottage (808 E. Hancock). This will give us a chance to grab a cup of Joe and a breakfast item and visit for an hour or so about our beloved Flying Tigers and anything else we can think of to share about the happenings at Newberg High! We hope to see you there!

Newberg NationThoughts…

~Principal Risen

So who was Nikola Tesla you ask? Tesla was an American inventor that invented many of the household items we used during the 20th century and several that we continue to utilize today! His inventions include the radio (albeit controversial), X rays, AC (alternating current) power, the remote control, the Tesla electrical coil, electric motors, and many, many, others.

And while Tesla was an inventor of machines, he was also a philosopher in regards to mankind. His quote below often reminds us that life is not so much about what we have done, accomplished, or the medals, trophies or bonuses we have earned. But more importantly, in Tesla’s eyes, the values that we hold close to our hearts and that we collectively possess as human beings far supersede any material possessions that we could ever acquire!

Tesla’s focus on values is consistent with our focus on Newberg Nation, as what we collectively believe, how we collectively act and what we give to one another and our community hold much greater value than our material possessions! So remember, Tigers, it is not that we’ve got, but what we give, that defines who and what we are as Newberg Nation!

...the papers, which thirty years ago conferred upon me the honor of American citizenship, are always kept in a safe, while my orders, diplomas, degrees, gold medals and other distinctions are packed away in old trunks.
