Newberg musicians perform in state honor band, choir, orchestra

Fifteen Newberg High School students performed at the 2014 Oregon Music Educators Association (OMEA) State Conference, and “did so brilliantly” according to Robert Hawthorne, Director of Choirs at NNHS.

Student selected to participate in the honor band include Dylan Bean, Anthony Bithel, Noelle Engleman, Jesse Groat, Liam Hathaway, Kristi Hubbel, Angel Nunez and Matt Staples. Members of the honor choir are Grace Brockie, Jordan Geisch, Luke Hartley, and Jeffrey Olson. Reagan Call, Kory Favara and Miranda Hamilton were selected to the honor orchestra.

Hawthorne has been selected as Choir Manager for the 2015 All-State Choir. His responsibilities will include hiring the guest conductor, managing the audition process of some 500 students from all over the state, facilitating music distribution and the running of the rehearsals at next year's conference.

“With 230 students selected for membership in the choir, it is a big job and one that I have done before,” said Hawthorne. “It is an honor for the Newberg community and an opportunity to have influence on a state-wide event.“
