In the News: Newberg puts 15 on all-state bands

Fifteen Newberg High School students have been selected by the Oregon Music Education Association to play in All-State Honor Groups, which will practice and perform Jan. 16-19 in Eugene.

Four students — soprano Jordan Geisch, soprano Grace Brockie, baritone Luke Hartley and bass J.J. Olson — were selected to participate in the honor choir group.

The All-State Honor Orchestra will feature Regan Call on violin, Maranda Hamilton on cello and Kory Favara on bass, with trombonist Thomas Gaumer chosen to play with the jazz band.

The largest number of students, five, will participate in the wind symphony. Matt Staples and Anthony Bitthell will play clarinet, Kristi Hubble will perform on bass clarinet, Gaumer will play trombone and Dylan Bean will be on percussion.

“This is a huge honor and is the largest group of students accepted from Newberg in several years,” said NHS band director Joel Tanner.
Selected for the symphonic band were flautist Noelle Engelman, Angel Nunez for baritone sax and Liam Hathaway for tuba.
