NHS ag teacher named "Educator of Distinction"

Newberg ag teacher Bob Beckner was named an Educator of Distinction by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. The award recognizes outstanding teachers dedicated to providing education with an enhanced purpose. NHS Senior Arianna Piscitelli, a 2011 Coca−Cola Scholar and Class of 2011 Salutatorian,, nominated Beckner as the educator that inspired and encouraged her the most. Beckner received a certificate inscribed with a personal dedication written by the student that nominated them.

Approximately 200 alumni, former students, parents and friends gathered at the annual FFA Awards event June 2nd to honor Beckner and celebrate his 35 years of service as a teacher at Newberg High School.

“I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Bob and I am glad he is part of SILVER School,” said Principal Carol Campbell. “His years of experience, expertise and passion for teaching are admirable.”

Beckner seized the opportunity to share his credo for student success with his audience, many of whom are enjoying successful careers as a result of their experience in his classroom. Beckner’s advice?
