NHS solar panels to generate energy, revenue

Newberg Oregon School District

Solar panels being installed at Newberg High School will soon be generating power and revenue. The panels  are being installed on the roofs of buildings J and H, and the commons as part of an agreement with EnergyWise Lighting to lease district roof space. Power generated from the panels on the high school roof will feed into the PGE power grid, earning the district energy credits for the next 15 years.

Solar panels were also installed at Mabel Rush Elementary School last fall and will offset district energy costs..

The solar panel system will generate approximately $250,000 in the first 15 years and $500,000 over the following 15 years. There is no cost to the school district.

The solar panel system at Mabel Rush and Newberg High School is not part of the 2011 bond projects.
