NHS student dies in auto accident

Newberg Oregon School District

It is with great sadness that the Newberg school community learned of the death of Alex Weiler over the weekend. Alex, a junior in Yellow School at Newberg High School, died in a single car accident at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.

The Suburban vehicle Alex was driving went off Fox Farm Road where it intersects with Hidden Springs Road between Newberg and Dundee. There were no other passengers in the car. Yamhill County Sherriff’s Department responded with support from Newberg-Dundee Police and Newberg Fire Department.

Yellow School principals Stafford Boyd says that Alex was characterized by his sense of service--to his family, friends, teammates, and community--and his constant smile.  Alex was a member of the Boy’s Tennis and Cross Country teams at Newberg High School and participated in robotics. He is the son of Steve and Staci Weiler of Dundee.

School counselors will be available Monday and throughout the week for students needing extra support in dealing with the loss of Alex. Resources for parents and families helping their students cope with grief and loss are posted below.

Memorial service arrangements are pending. Remembrances and condolences for the Weiler family can be sent to the high school or small school offices.
