NHS STUDENTS AT CESAR E. CHAVEZ leadership conference

Twenty-four Newberg High School students participated in the Cesar E. Chavez student leadership conference on March 3rd.  The annual event is the largest Latino student leadership conference in the Pacific Northwest with approximately 2,200 students and chaperones attending.

Senior Antonio Peña Anaya  won a $1,000 scholarship and a $200 cash award for second place in a poetry contest. Ashley Solis, sophomore,  won honorable mention and a $50 cash award for her entry in the art contest.

Latino students from throughout the Willamette Valley have come together for over a quarter of a century, for this annual event in honor of César E. Chávez. The conference began in 1990 with a small group of Portland Public School students. It has now grown to include schools from Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas, Linn, Benton, Marion, Lincoln, Polk and Yamhill Counties.
