Recognition rolls in for arts

Hannah Spring Lindsay won Best of Show for her drawing titled, Fourth Coming of Spring, at the Camellia Festival.

The Newberg High School Symphonic Choir took top honors at the Pacific Conference state choir qualifying event. This is the first time in the last ten years that the NHS choir has taken first place according to Jason Taylor, choir director.

A first place finish at the PAC 8 Band Festival qualified the high school Symphonic Wind Ensemble for the state band contest. This marks the 12th time Newberg has won the district band festival since 1999 and the 22nd year the Newberg band has qualified for state since the festivals began 25 years ago. Joel Tanner directs the 65-member Symphonic wind Ensemble.
