Search for basketball coach underway

Newberg High School Athletic Director Tim Burke announced that Tamie Woginrich is retiring as head girls basketball Coach at Newberg High School.  Woginrich submitted her intent to retire on March 20.  The Lady Tigers advanced to the state playoffs three times in the six years Woginrich served as Head Coach.

"Like several of our Head Coaches, Tamie poured herself into providing a positive experience for our student-athletes," said Burke.  "Girls that played for Tamie were fortunate to have a caring, passionate and giving adult as a part of their lives.   Working with CPRD, Tamie was instrumental in creating a more stable middle school basketball program.  She was dedicated to providing opportunities to play basketball for all kids.  Her passion for Newberg High School extended to supporting other programs.  She will be sorely missed."

Burke also announced that Head Boys Basketball Coach Dave Brown will not be returning next year. He thanked Brown for, "his work to stabilize a program that had seen four head coaches over a five year period as well as creating an environment where student-athletes felt that their coaches cared about them as both an athlete and a person." 

In his two years as Head Coach, Brown compiled a record of 9-39.  He will continue as the Head Boy's Tennis Coach, as well as his duties at the high school.

"My desire is to find an individual who can articulate a vision for an entire program and someone who can teach fundamental basketball skills and strategies to our student-athletes," said Burke. "  I am interested in someone who has a goal to stay here and develop a long-term plan of excellence.  If I can find the right person, I will give them time to create such a program."  

The search to replace both coaches is underway.
