Student poetry earns recognition

Two  Newberg High School earned recognition and cash awards for their poetry submissions at the César E. Chávez Leadership Conference (CECLC) held earlier this month at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon. The annual leadership conference attracts over 2,000 students from around the state.

The poetry contest featured original work related to Cesar E. Chavez.   Sophomore Carina Baca won second place and a $200 prize for her poem "Nunca Olvidemos" (Never Forget.)   Antonio Peña Anaya, a junior, received Honorable Mention  for his poem "Nuestra Lucha" (Our Fight) and won $50.  Their poems are below.
