Students return from German exchange

Eight NHS students studying German and participating in the German-American Partnership Program (GAPP) and NHS German teacher Susan Schiller and Edwards Elementary teacher Eric Fuchs,  returned from a month-long educational exchange in Germany.

Students first spent four days touring the sights in and around Germany’s capital city, Berlin.  After leaving Berlin, the Newberg students met their German partners and host families in Luechow, located in northern Germany,  NHS students spent the next three weeks immersed in the daily life of their host families. When school began August 8th, Newberg students attended classes with their partners at the Gymnasium Luechow.

Newberg has actively participated in this exchange program with Luechow over the past 27 years, with the exchange occurring every-other year. NHS students gave presentations to various classes on topics that gave the German students an insight into American culture and school life, as well as the attractions and wildlife of Oregon.
In addition to participating in family excursions and activities, students went on field trips to the Hanseatic city of Luebeck, swam in the Baltic Sea, and toured the Autostadt exhibits and production line at the Volkswagen headquarters in Wolfsburg.

The Newberg students said goodbye to their German partners earlier this week but look forward a reunion in when they will arrive here in Oregon for a month-long stay to complete the exchange.
