Several Newberg Nation Flying Tigers had an early prom this year as they attended the Night To Shine event sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. Held at the Newberg Christian Church last Friday night, it was a magical night filled with everything a wonderful prom has to offer. Tuxedos, flowers, make up and dancing the night away, several Flying Tigers got to have a great time on behalf of the Tim Tebow Foundation. Crab Feed& Auction

It’s fundraising time here in Newberg Nation and the Flying Tigers Boosters are in full speed to raise some dollars! The annual Crab Feed & Auction is scheduled for Saturday, March 14th, and many new auction items are being added to an already outstanding ensemble. But, in an effort to mention a couple of Newberg Nation happenings at the auction your very own NHS administrative team is donating a dinner for eight! They will cook, clean, serve and entertain, all in the name of raising funds for the school! Meanwhile, Mr. & Mrs. Risen have donated a crabbing trip on the Oregon Coast (with Activities Director Mark Brown coming along as 1st mate!), and you won’t want to miss this year’s Masters of Ceremonies for the event, Principal Mark Risen and Activities Director Mark Brown! If you know those two Flying Tigers this could get incredibly creative and will be hilarious to attend! Get your Crab Feed tickets now at any Newberg Nation sporting event,

FORECASTING FOR 2015-2016

Newberg Nation it’s time to start thinking about which classes you are interested in taking next year. Forecasting season is right around the corner and will run March 12-20.

Information will be available on our website beginning the week of March 2nd. Complete with a copy of the course catalog and forecasting sheets for each grade level students and parents will have access to those materials via our website.

Forecasting materials will also be handed out during advisories and at the middle schools beginning March 12 and there will be a Forecasting Help Center open to all students and parents on Wednesday, March 18, from 5-7pm in the West Commons. This will be a great time to get specific questions answered in a one on one format with counselors and administrators, especially those that have questions about dual credit, graduation requirements, Advanced Placement course questions and specific questions about organizing a schedule that will keep your student involved in co-curricular offerings yet meet their graduation requirements!

Our deadline for all forecasting sheets will be Thursday, March 19. Please have your student return their forecasting sheet to their advisory teacher by that time! We really appreciate everyone turning in their materials by that day so that we may begin building our master schedule for the 2015-2016 school year. Happy forecasting Newberg Nation!

An Important Moment With Abby…

Congratulations to Abby Bull for winning the Future Farmers of America District Championship in Beginning Public Speaking! Not only is she a champion, but more importantly, she has a championship message that should inspire all of us. Here is a quote from Abby:

“I have been working on spreading the news about how harmful plastic bags are for the environment. I've done a speech in all of my classes, and also won districts in FFA for beginning public speaking by talking about that. Plastic bags are one of the largest forms of pollution, and someone needs to take action. Anything I can do, whether it be speaking at the next assembly, putting up posters around school, selling reusable bags, or speaking to advisory classes I would love your support!”

Newberg Nation, let’s get behind this, and our Flying Tiger Abby, and help reduce the number of plastic bags we dispose of! Way to go Abby, let’s keep this message going and good luck at State!

Dr. Amanda Goes To Harvard!

Newberg Nation join me in congratulating Amanda Clark who was recently selected as a delegate to represent Newberg Nation and the state of Oregon at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders to be held this June at Harvard University! With strict academic and social criteria to be selected, Amanda made the field and is now planning her travels back to the greater Boston area! Way to go Dr. Amanda, you Flying Medical Tiger!

Senior Project Help
Dear Friends, I'm doing a book and supplies drive for Busy Bees Playroom (A loving play & learning experience for preschoolers offered free to families who qualify) for my senior project. If you could be so kind to donate new or gently used preschool age books, art supplies, snack items or a monetary donation, I would appreciate it.  I will have a drop off box at Berkshire Hathaway office (old Sweetest Thing), NHS Silver School, Excel Fitness and the Newberg Friends Church or I can come by and pick up your donations.

Thanks so much,
Grayson Oviatt

The Breakfast club!

Our next Breakfast Club meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 6th, at 8am at the Coffee Cottage! Come on down, grab a cup of Joe, and talk about all things Newberg Nation!

Lockdown Drill This Week

Newberg High and the Newberg-Dundee Police Department partnered this week in a joint exercise to test NHS readiness when having to activate our lockdown system. A very important step in our safety protocols, we want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as a drill like this takes a little longer than the other drills we perform. Way to go you Flying Tigers, we appreciate all of your efforts and patience in helping us test our readiness!

Newberg NationThoughts…

~Principal Risen

One of the interesting challenges I have observed here in Newberg Nation is that our students just don’t quite understand what, when and how to celebrate all of the wonderful things we are doing here in Newberg Nation!

We have so many accomplished community members, so many awesome acts of generosity, volunteerism and kindness occurring, so many individual and group celebrations to be had and yet, I find it intriguing to watch our students not quite understand how amazing, how unbelievable, how important their own achievements, and their classmates accomplishments, are.

This observation reminds me that we have the duty, as the leaders and the adults, to help our kids understand that there are amazing things happening right now that warrant a standing ovation, a round of applause, a moment of acknowledgement, and that we are living them as they are happening so we must stop and smell the roses, take in those moments, make memories of them together, and celebrate each other’s successes! Knowing, that in so doing, we will continue growing and furthering a culture of success as success builds upon success, and so on.

So please help us Newberg Nation! Stop and smell the roses, look upon those amazing Tigers in awe, take pause, and celebrate all things Newberg Nation! And if you have something you believe we should celebrate we would be honored if you shared it with us!

Flying Tigers…

“The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate!”
