Newberg NationThoughts…

~Principal Risen

With prom occurring tomorrow NHS is abuzz with excitement and anticipation of its arrival and all the great things prom means for our students. Prom is a fascinating high school event. In its own way it teaches so many lessons to our students while being one of the most anticipated events of the year, especially for our juniors and seniors.

Many families will find their entire day consumed with prom preparation and events tomorrow, this in light of having spent the past several weeks getting organized for tomorrow’s final preparation! I vividly recall this when our own two children graduated.

Traveling to downtown Portland for the dance has also added suspense to the event, as well as broadening the logistical opportunities for students seeking to go to dinner, etcetera. While this creates excitement at all the possible places to dine, stop and or shop on their way, it also causes additional concerns for our students, their safety, and their security.

I would like to ask on this prom eve that all families take a moment during their preparations tomorrow and discuss traveling safely, being cautious when out and about, and to encourage our students to make healthy choices so that we may have a joy filled and fun focused formal event tomorrow!

We are excited to be able to provide opportunities such as this and value what they mean to our students, their families and our community. Thank you for taking the time to ensure that your student is prepared from a safety, security and healthy standpoint while also preparing them for this very special moment in time! Let’s have a great prom!
