Bond news: Chamber board endorses school bond
WHY LOCAL BUSINESS LEADERS SUPPORT THE NEWBERG SCHOOL BOND
As Chehalem Valley business people we believe our schools are the foundation of a healthy economy. Schools prepare our students for college and the workforce. They are the foundation of strong neighborhoods and a vibrant community.
The state of local education is a major factor in whether our community is successful in attracting businesses and providing jobs in our area. Quality schools are also critical to the successful recruitment of employees needed in our businesses. Most importantly, we need quality schools to ensure our children and grandchildren have the opportunity to learn and compete in a very challenging global economy.
Measure 36-147 invests in our community by making major repairs to school buildings that are beyond the capacity of operating budgets. The bond supports classroom education by purchasing textbooks, classroom materials and upgrading technology.
Measure 36-147 is a smart fiscal investment. Taxpayers will pay zero interest on $15 million of the bond, saving approximately $4 million thanks to a federal economic stimulus program. Property owners will also see a decrease in their current tax rate if the new bond passes because a 1993 bond is retiring.
In the last three years, we have watched the Newberg School District continue to tighten its belt while improving student achievement. Supporting Measure 36-147 is the single best thing we can do to support our local economy and give kids the basic skills that businesses and our community need.
This school bond is a good investment in our future.
PLEASE VOTE YES FOR MEASURE 36-147
