Bond Update: Renovated track, field ready this fall

Newberg Oregon School District

A newly renovated track and field at Newberg High School will be ready for team and community use next September. PE classes, track teams, community members and special event organizers create heavy use of the high school track and field. Currently the field can only support limited use due to erosion and drainage problems. In order to protect playing condition, the field is only used about ten times per year for football play only.

Plans call for using bond funds to replace the original track, long jump pits and add a high jump area. Repairs to the main football field include removing the crown and reconstructing the drainage and irrigation system. The new all-weather playing surface will allow youth, adult and community use of the field throughout the year.

The NHS Booster Club is raising funds to install the new synthetic turf on the main football field. In addition to seeking donations, a portion of the annual February Crab Feed proceeds will go toward the turf project.

Work will begin on the football field in early May. The track replacement and related site work will begin immediately after the Special Olympics Games of Oregon in July.
