Byerley, CV teachers earn Superintendent accolades

Newberg Oregon School District

Collaboration Award - Troy Christenson, Bobby Plummer and Cis Brower, Chehalem Valley 7th grade core teaching team
The Collaboration Award recognizes the work of a team that has a positive impact on Newberg students.

Flexibility, focus and assuming a shared responsibility are at the root of their success.  Cis is a veteran teacher who had never taught 7th grade core. Troy and Bobby made her feel welcome and immediately included her in their task to outline the scope and sequence for reading and writing in the 7th grade curriculum. Their focus on standards and alignment allowed the team to impact learning in 7th grade – exceeding their OAKS reading goal with 85% of students meeting or exceeding standards. They share their strengths, teach each other’s students, make time to help each other because they know they are more effective working together as a team.

21st Century Inspiration Award - Andy Byerley, STEM teacher on special assignment
Preparation for success in the 21st century demands a broader vision of skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication and  citizenship.  The 21st Century Inspiration Award is given to a staff member who embodies that vision.

Byerley does this and more. A classroom teacher with a passion to reach beyond, he has an ability to see how parts of the whole interact to produce an overall outcome that will have lasting impact on students and their futures. He is instrumental in opening door to 21st century innovation and opportunity for students and teachers in our district in ways we have not been able to do before.
