Change to Mask Requirement
February 25, 2022
Yesterday, the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) announced a change: the mask mandate will be removed for all indoor spaces, including schools, on Saturday, March 19. Our district is continuing to plan to ensure the safety of our medically fragile students and staff after this change.
Beginning after Spring Break, on Monday March 28, masks will no longer be required in our schools. ODE guidance still requires social distancing, so we will continue that practice. The most important prevention measure we can take is to be vaccinated. We encourage everyone to remember that some have unique situations with their own health and family members’ health which others may not know about. Please, show respect to students and staff who continue to wear masks.
We are working with Yamhill County Health and ODE to understand what this will mean when we have a positive COVID case in our schools and masks are not worn. Please be aware that removing the mask requirement may mean more students will need to quarantine after a COVID exposure. We are clarifying those details and will communicate all those changes to protocols in the coming weeks.
