Chehalem Valley Middle School Closure
As we have communicated, we are in the middle of a large surge in COVID cases in our schools and across the state. Beginning last Friday and continuing through today, we are seeing a large outbreak of cases at Chehalem Valley Middle School. Health authorities are recommending that we make a temporary closure of the school to try to stop further spread.
Chehalem Valley Middle School will be closed to all students on Thursday Jan. 27, Friday Jan. 28, and Monday Jan. 31. It will reopen on Tuesday Feb. 1. This will give the recommended five full days of quarantine for every student.
There will be no instruction and no staff in the building on Thursday, Jan. 27, as we will be disinfecting the entire building. On Friday and Monday, teachers will hold online help sessions on the normal schedule—students should log onto their Google Classroom for information. New material will not be presented, but these are optional opportunities for students to get help completing work that must be finished before the end of the semester on Thursday, Feb. 3.
Please monitor your student for symptoms and talk with your doctor if you have questions or concerns. We are only taking this step due to the broad number of infections across the school. Please do not send your student to school on Tuesday if they have any COVID symptoms, or if they are newly exposed to a COVID positive person during the time of the closure.
We are aware of the challenges this places on families and of the loss of learning time, and we do not make this decision lightly. At this time, we hope this will be the only closure. However, we are closely monitoring increasing cases at Newberg High School, Mt. View Middle School, Mabel Rush Elementary School, and Edwards Elementary School.
