Clown threats unfounded
Social media rumors involving threatening clowns planning to do harm at local schools have worked their way from the east coast to Newberg.
Newberg-Dundee Police state that there are no known credible threats to schools involving clowns.
Dressing up as a clown is not a crime. However, scaring people may cross into criminal activity and be cause for arrest.
Schools and police take safety very seriously. Newberg-Dundee police encourage residents to contact police to report any suspicious or alarming behavior they observe. An officer will respond as soon as possible to take a report and investigate the incident.
Adults can help by not spreading rumor and providing facts.
Parents can help ease fears of students who may be concerned about social media threats and monitor their child’s social media activity. Parents can report specific concerns using the school district Tip Line on the mobile app or call the 24/7 anonymous threat reporting line at 1-888-287-6157.
