COA and CDL Information

As we approach the end of the first semester in our district (February 5th), there is an opportunity for students to change between Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) and our fully online Chehalem Online Academy (COA). The deadline for changing (either from CDL to COA, or from COA to CDL) is Friday, January 15.

As you make your decision, please keep the following factors in mind:

  • We do not know when we will eventually go back to hybrid, in-person learning during the 2020-2021 school year.  Because COA is an entirely online experience, your child will need to be in CDL to access hybrid, in-person learning.  If you would like to have your child return to in-person learning, you will want to choose the CDL option. COA will continue to be a nonsynchronous learning option.
  • CDL students will have the option of remaining in Distance Learning even if we do return to hybrid, in-person learning. Depending upon how many choose this option, your student may not remain with the same teacher; but you do not have to choose COA in order to remain in distance learning for the remainder of the year.
  • The window for switching, either from CDL to COA, or from COA to CDL, is from January 5th until January 15th.
  • If you want your student to switch to COA, you will need to fill out an application. For grades K-8, fill out this application and email it to Lynette Hammon (hammonl@newberg.k12.or.us). For grades 9-12, fill out this application and email it to Connie Martin (martinc@newberg.k12.or.us).
  • If you want your student to switch to their neighborhood school for CDL, please start the process by contacting both your COA Advisory Teacher and the office of that school (ie: if you live in the Crater Elementary School boundary, you would contact the main office at Crater Elementary School or if your student will transfer to NHS, you would contact the NHS office). Your COA Advisory Teacher will plan to work with the neighborhood school to help make a smooth transition.

We will have a Zoom meeting to answer any questions on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 7 pm. Here is the link: http://bit.ly/3hR22Qy
