Dolls to help hospital’s young patients
Jean Housgard’s home arts class is looking more like Santa’s Workshop than a classroom this week. The Chehalem Valley Middle School home arts students are making medical play dolls that they will donate to St. Vincent’s Hospital. The dolls have no facial features and are dressed in hospital gowns. Physicians use these dolls with children from 18 months to 10 years old to describe the medical procedure the child will be having. The child keeps the doll after the procedure.
After seeing a flyer seeking help to make the medical play dolls, Housgard enlisted her class in the community service project. Students expect to complete over 60 dolls by Wednesday and deliver them at the end of the week.
