False report sends school into lockdown

Antonia Crater Elementary School went into lockdown at approximately 10:00 am this morning when Newberg-Dundee Police received a 911 call saying a student with a rifle was in the 400-student school.

Police arrived immediately and learned the identity of the caller.  A student identified as making the 911 phone call was questioned by police and admitted to making a false report.

"Staff, teachers and students responded very appropriately," said Newberg-Dundee Police Captain Jeff Kosmicki. The lockdown was lifted at approximately 11:00 am after officers searched the building.

In the initial confusion, it was thought that Joan Austin Elementary School was involved. Students and staff went into lock down for approximately 50 minutes before the lockdown was lifted.

Chehalem Valley Middle, which shares a campus with Antonia Crater Elementary, went into lockout, which means all school doors were locked, students remain inside and classes continue as normal until the lockout was lifted.
