Free Parent Group Classes Starting This August!
If you're a parent looking for resources and support, A Family Place can help. The nonprofit organization offers several parenting groups, and the in-person ones offer childcare and food. Most are held either online or in the First Baptist Church, 125 SW Cowls St. McMinnville. Sign up for classes at midvalleyparenting.org. One of these parent groups is available in Spanish!
The current groups that are offered include:
- Circle of Security online: Tuesdays, Aug. 29 to Oct. 17, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., Learn to support your children’s security and self-esteem, and better understand your children’s emotional world with other parents. This online group is for parents of children four months and up.
- Clase de circulo de seguridad: los jueves, 24 de agosto al 12 de octubre, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Este grupo en persona se reúne en la Primera Iglesia Bautista en McMinnville. Proveemos comida y cuidado de niños. Aprenda a apoyar la seguridad y el autoestima de sus hijos, y comprenda mas el mundo emocional de sus hijos junto a otros padres. Para padres de niños de cuatro meses en adelante.
- Active Parenting of Teens and Tweens: Thursdays, Aug. 24 to Oct. 12, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. This in-person group meets at the First Baptist Church in McMinnville. Childcare and meals are provided. Join in a supportive small group setting to learn more about creating a healthy parent/child connection, communicating better with your teen/preteen, teaching responsibility, using effective discipline, and more!
- Mothers and Babies online: Tuesdays, Aug. 15 to Oct. 3, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Build a community with other moms, practice mood management skills, gain skills to cope with everyday stress, and more! For mothers of children prenatal to age 3. This online group is appropriate for any pregnant or birthing parent or caregiver who identifies as “Mom.”
- Trauma-Informed Parenting: Thursdays, Aug. 24 to Oct. 5, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. (no class on Sept. 7). This in-person group meets at the First Baptist Church in McMinnville. Childcare and meals are provided. Join parents and caregivers for a weekly evening group focused on growing our parenting knowledge, skills, and abilities from a trauma-informed lens. Topics include:
- What is trauma?
- The role my child’s brain plays in trauma behaviors.
- Strategies to build increased safety and healing.
- Individual and family self-care.
- Trauma-Informed Parenting Lunch and Learn online: Wednesdays, Aug. 16 to Sept. 20, 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. Join parents and caregivers for a weekly online evening group focused on growing our parenting knowledge, skills, and abilities from a trauma-informed lens. Topics include:
- What is trauma?
- The role my child’s brain plays in trauma behaviors.
- Strategies to build increased safety and healing.
- Individual and family self-care.
