The flag at Joan Austin Elementary School is flying at half-staff today to honor the loss of a generous friend and supporter.  Joan Austin passed away in her sleep early this morning, June 5th. 

We mourn the loss of the gracious woman who connected with every Austin Elementary kindergarten student over tea and cookies at the start of each school year . . . the arts patron whose generosity provided field trips to art museums and cultural events to thousands of Newberg students . . . and the community-minded business woman who helped leverage the donation of property for a yes vote for a major school construction bond.

Our deepest condolences to the Austin family, especially Yellow School science teacher Jessica Wolfer, Joan’s granddaughter.
