Introducing the New Ewing Young Principal for 23-24

Scott Henderson

Newberg-Dundee Public Schools (NDPS) is pleased to announce that Scott Henderson will be joining us as the new Principal of Ewing Young Elementary School, replacing Brian Wood, who will be shifting to Antonia Crater Elementary School.

“I’ve accepted this position because of the great legacy that Ewing Young has,” said Henderson, who lives in Newberg and will be leaving his position as the Principal of Yamhill-Carlton High School. “Throughout my career, I’ve continuously heard about the excellent teachers and staff at Ewing Young, and I’m excited to be a part of such a great school.

Henderson will start at Ewing Young on July 1. As previously announced, Wood’s last day at Ewing Young will be June 30, and his first day as principal of Crater will be July 1. Wood will also be helping Henderson throughout Ewing Young’s transition to a new leader.

“Any new position is a learning process, and I will be transparent with families as I transition into this new role,” Henderson said. “I plan to use the previous principal, Mr. Wood, as an asset — as well as the current staff and teachers — to help me prepare for the upcoming year.”

Henderson earned his Master of Arts in Teaching at Willamette University and his Bachelor of Science in Education from Linfield College. He attended George Fox University for his administrator license, a certification for school leaders such as principals and vice principals. With such a strong educational background, Henderson offers a wealth of educational knowledge to support the NDPS community. In addition, his experience includes four years of administrative experience and 15 years of teaching.

“I'm looking forward to working with the staff, students, and parents at Ewing Young,” Henderson said. “I’m hoping to be a big part of making Ewing Young a place that students and staff enjoy going to daily.”

He will miss Yamhill Carlton, naturally.

“It's going to be hard to leave YC; they have already become a second family in the past four years, and I've built some amazing lifelong relationships,” he said. “This decision was focused on continuing to support a good work-life balance for my family at this stage in our lives. I will help YC in any way needed to help the new hire have a smooth transition as I want what is best for the YC staff and students.”

When Henderson isn’t working, he’s at home “with a family of five that I adore. My wife, Angie, is a family nurse practitioner at Physicians Medical Center in McMinnville, and we have three kids, the oldest of whom starts kindergarten this fall.” He enjoys traveling with his family, cheering for the Beavers, golfing, and hiking.
