Kindergarten registration set for March 12
Newberg and Dundee elementary schools are opening their doors to entering kindergarten students and their parents at a registration event on Thursday, March 12, 2015. Kindergarten registration provides an opportunity to meet teachers and school staff, and learn more about the kindergarten program, optional programs, transportation and before and after school childcare.
When: Thursday, March 12, 2015
Time: 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Where: All Newberg School District elementary schools
Beginning in September 2015, Newberg kindergarten classes will be full day, operating on the same schedule as grades one through five.
The school district offers three additional program options for kindergarten students. Each program is by application only.
Half-day kindergarten - a solid foundation for academic achievement and success in elementary school. Location will be determined based on program interest.
Bilingual program - students learn to read in English and Spanish simultaneously, receiving literacy instruction in their first language. Second language skills are introduced orally and in printed form through songs, poems and games. (K-5 program)
Chehalem Online Learning Alliance (COLA) – a hybrid online learning program that blends online instruction with regular contact with a highly qualified teacher. Parents maintain a leadership role in their child’s education planning. (K-8 program)
Schools will be accepting applications for the Kindergarten program for children who will be five years old by September 1, 2105. If you plan on enrolling your child in kindergarten at this time, please bring:
- Birth Certificate
- Child’s immunization record
If you are unable to attend, please contact your neighborhood school to complete the registration process. If you are uncertain about which elementary school is your home school, please call 503-554-5018 or visit Find Your School.
