Milner to lead Ewing Young, K-8 literacy

Newberg Oregon School District

Superintendent Kym LeBlanc-Esparza announced that Kevin Milner will serve as Ewing Young Principal/Teaching and Learning with an emphasis on K-8 literacy beginning next school year.

“Given the new demands on educators as we implement rigorous Common Core Standards, new Smarter Balance testing and teacher evaluation, educators need additional support if we are to increase our graduation rate,” said LeBlanc-Esparza. Milner will be responsible for implementing the district’s new K-8 Literacy Plan.

Milner has divided his principal duties between Antonia Crater and Ewing Young elementary schools since the 2011-12 school year as part of the school district budget reductions.  He has lead Antonia Crater Elementary as principal since 2006. Previously Milner served as principal at Mabel Rush between 2000-2006 and assistant principal/academic intervention teacher at Edwards Elementary in 1998.

Under Milner’s leadership, the 450-student school has been rated “outstanding” or “exceptional.”

Antonia Crater staff and school parents will be involved in the hiring process for a new principal.

Milner’s new position does not require additional administrative staffing and is a redistribution of current administrative assignments.
