Morelock Named Newberg Interim Superintendent
The Newberg School Board named Dr. Joe Morelock Interim Superintendent for the 2018-2019 school year. He replaces outgoing superintendent Kym LeBlanc-Esparza on July 1.
Morelock was the unanimous choice of the six-member board following multiple candidate interviews during a thorough search process.
“Newberg has always been known for its incredibly supportive community and the quality of its schools,” said Morelock. “I am honored to serve the Newberg Public Schools as Interim Superintendent, and look forward to meeting the staff and community to work together on building a bright future for our students.”
Morelock currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Academics and Student Programs at the Lake Oswego School District, a position he has held for four years. Previously Morelock served as Director of Technology in the Canby School District.
During his 25-years in public education, Morelock’s experiences range from teacher and coach to leadership and technology management. The tri-lingual speaker is familiar with working with culturally, academically and economically diverse students and families.
Morelock earned his Doctorate in Education from Portland State University and a Masters of Arts in Teaching at Pacific University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in World Languages from Lewis and Clark College.
“Joe brings a wealth of skills and experience that will benefit the school district,” said school board chairman Bob Woodruff. “His personality and passion for education is a great fit for Newberg. I’m pleased to have Joe at the helm supporting out students, teachers and staff.”
Staff, parents, students, and community are encouraged to meet Morelock at an informal meet-and-greet on Tuesday, May 22, at 6 pm in the Newberg School District Board Room at 714 E. 6thSt.
La Junta Directiva Escolar de Newberg nombró al Dr. Joe Morelock como el Superintendente Interino para el año escolar 2018-2019. Él reemplaza a la superintendente saliente Kym LeBlanc-Esparza a partir del 1o de julio.
El Dr. Morelock fue la elección unánime de la junta escolar compuesta por seis miembros después de múltiples entrevistas de candidatos durante un exhaustivo proceso de búsqueda.
"Newberg siempre se ha caracterizado por el increíble apoyo por parte de su comunidad y la calidad de sus escuelas", dijo Morelock. "Me siento honrado de servir a las Escuelas Públicas de Newberg como Superintendente Interino, y espero conocer al personal y la comunidad para trabajar juntos en edificar un futuro brillante para nuestros estudiantes".
El Dr. Morelock actualmente se desempeña como Asistente del Superintendente para Programas Académicos y de Estudiantiles en el Distrito Escolar de Lake Oswego, un puesto que ha ocupado por cuatro años. Anteriormente, el Dr. Morelock se desempeñó como Director de Tecnología en el Distrito Escolar de Canby.
Durante sus 25 años en educación pública, las experiencias del Dr. Morelock van desde la enseñanza y entrenamiento hasta el liderazgo y la administración de tecnología. Como hablante de tres idiomas, el Dr. Morlock está familiarizado con el trabajo con estudiantes y familias con diversidad cultural, académica y económica.
El Dr. Morelock obtuvo su Doctorado en Educación en la Universidad Estatal de Portland y una Maestría en Enseñanza en Pacific University. Él tiene una licenciatura en Lenguas Mundiales de Lewis and Clark College.
