Murphy named Edwards principal
Scott Murphy is removing the word “interim” from his title.
Superintendent Kym LeBlanc-Esparza announced Tuesday night that Murphy is her selection as principal at Edwards Elementary School. Murphy was one of three candidates selected to go through a rigorous selection process, which included a community forum for parents and staff.
“Scott has built support and solid relationships with the staff at Edwards," said LeBlanc-Esparza. "Parents could not say enough about how much he has meant to students and the school commuity at Edwards. I am pleased he will be taking on this role."
Murphy served as interim principal at Edwards for the current school year when an extensive principal search did not yield the right person. Murphy has worked in the Newberg School District since 2012 as an assistant principal at Mountain View Middle School.
“Scott has done a great job supporting and leading Edwards,” said LeBlanc-Esparza. “He is very student-centered and is known for building strong relationships with staff and parents.”
Prior to joining the Mountain View staff in 2012, Murphy served as an assistant principal and a teacher at Astoria Middle School, and as principal of Captain Robert Gray School, Astoria. Murphy has worked as a classroom teacher in The Dalles and in Montana. He has developed and taught in an English language program in Japan. Murphy also served as the Director of Title Programs for the Astoria School District.
Murphy received his Masters in Education from Montana State University, Billings, Montana and his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Eastern Montana College. He earned his administrative credentials at Portland State University.
