Murphy named Mountain View assistant principal
Scott Murphy was named assistant principal of Mountain View Middle School. He replaces Dan Busch, who resigned to accept a principal position at Fowler Middle School in Tigard.
A selection committee that included four teachers, two classified employees and principal Wayne Strong selected Murphy from a pool of 73 applicants. Murphy served as an assistant principal and a teacher at Astoria Middle School, and as principal of Captain Robert Gray School, Astoria. Murphy has worked as a classroom teacher in The Dalles and in Montana. He has developed and taught in an English language in Japan.
The selection committee was impressed with his student-centered approach and leadership. Colleagues described Murphy as a dedicated, caring professional who works well with students and provides strong leadership to a school.
“He brings a history of building trust, developing positive relationships combined with high ethics and strong leadership,” said Strong. “We’re looking forward to Scott joining us at Mountain View.”
Murphy received his Masters in Education from Montana State University, Billings, Montana and his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Eastern Montana College. He earned his administrative credentials at Portland State University.
Murphy starts August 2, 2012 and will be responsible for student management, positive behavior support program and instructional leadership at the 550-student school.
