Newberg PERS rates double
Newberg schools learned last week that the district's share of increased PERS rates is between $1.7-1.8 million for the 2017-18 school year. While school district superintendent Kym LeBlanc-Esparza was originally expecting closer to a $1 million increase, she is not ready to panic. "We're paying attention to state leaders, knowing they will have to take drastic steps to protect K-12 education," said LeBlanc-Esparza.
$1.8 million is equivalent to 25 teachers or 10 days of school.
