In The News: Kindergarten readiness class offered by district

Registration is open for Newberg Public Schools’ free “READY for Kindergarten!” early learning program for parents of children who will start kindergarten in Newberg this fall or in the fall of 2016.

The course is comprised of three 90-minutes sessions designed to help parent participants prepare children with the early learning skills needed to start and stay at grade level throughout school. Classes encourage parents to talk, sing, read and play with their child in simple ways that foster essential pre-literacy, pre-math and social-emotional skills. Materials, toys and tools used in class are for participants to take home and use with their child.

Classes will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12, March 5 and April 23 at Mabel Rush Elementary School. Registration for each session begins at 5 p.m., followed by a free meal from 5:15 to 6 p.m.

Free transportation will be provided from Dundee and Edwards elementary schools as well as the St. Michael’s Church neighborhood. To reserve your place, please call Zoraida Anaya at 503-554-5000 or visit www.readyfor kindergarten.org/newberg.
