David Parker will join the Newberg School District as an assistant superintendent Sept. 17.
Parker, the executive director of secondary education for Hillsboro schools, brings “outstanding leadership skills and experience that will support our work around innovation,” Superintendent Kym LeBlanc-Esparza said.

Parker began his education career 23 years ago as a science teacher and has since served as principal for numerous schools and also as a central office administrator.

The Beaverton resident earned his bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and education at Portland State University and did graduate work at Lewis and Clark College. He has worked in the Hillsboro School District since 1990.

Newberg officials said they liked how Parker brings experience in areas of specific interest to Newberg schools, such as redesigning employee evaluation systems. He also has experience with technology and the STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering and Math — program.

In Hillsboro, he became known for his work in collaborative teams and standards-based teaching and learning.
Parker will be responsible for human resources, including recruiting, hiring, retaining and evaluating staff, as well as helping with curriculum development.

“I’m tremendously excited about getting involved with Newberg schools,” Parker said. “I love the sense of community here and am looking forward to supporting efforts to move the district forward.”
